Health Care Funding
Boston—CIMIT—Senator Kennedy worked to secure more than $30 million in funding for the Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology. This consortium is a collaboration between leading Boston-area hospitals, medical schools, and medical centers to identify advances in medical technology and use them to solve clinical problems. This consortium has been working to improve trauma-care in the military, to ensure that as many of our troops as possible return home to their families.
Boston – East Boston Neighborhood Community Health Center Workforce Development – Senator Kennedy worked to secure $475,000 for a new partnership between the East Boston Neighborhood Community Health Center and the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers to create health care professional development programs for workers at East Boston. The goals are to provide workers with the skills and certifications needed to move up in the allied health professions and to develop a training system that helps supply Massachusetts health care organizations with a steady supply of qualified, motivated, and highly trained professionals.
Boston – Joe Moakley Cancer Care Facility at Boston Medical Center – Senator Kennedy worked to secure more than $20 million in federal funding to support the construction of the new $80+ million Joe Moakley Building at Boston Medical Center. The new Moakley Building will provide BMC with a state-of-the-art cancer care facility to better serve BMC’s patients, many of whom are low-income and represent minority populations.
Brockton – Caritas Christi Good Samaritan Medical Center Cancer Center – Senator Kennedy supported the expansion of Caritas Christi’s Good Samaritan Medical Center’s Cancer Center by securing more than $1.5 million in federal funding for it over the past four years. Good Samaritan has been rated among the top 7% of hospitals nationwide for patient satisfaction and received the highest rating possible for a community hospital cancer program from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer.
