Yet more evidence of Ted Kennedy's reach: I have a home health aide who helps me care for my dad, an Alzheimer's patient. As I watched Senator Kennedy's funeral with tears streaming, she said matter-of-factly, "You know. He helped my husband and me." I asked how, and she explained that after they were married in the Philippines, she could not get a visa to come to the US. Senator Kennedy made some calls, and she had the paperwork she needed. I didn't need more evidence of his goodness or his accomplishments and achievements. I've been an avid supporter throughout his career. But it nonetheless warmed my heart. He is a source of strength for so many, and there is no question that his work will endure.
