Senator Kennedy's outstanding achievements have left a legacy on United States politics, particularly his struggle in defense of democracy and civil liberties. He has also marked a path that, from here on, will be globally acknowledged as an example by all people of goodwill no matter which their country.

The Argentine government recognizes the firm commitment of Senator Kennedy to the defense of human rights in our country and his unwavering support for the reestablishment of democracy during the past military dictatorship.

Senator Kennedy is now gone, but his legacy lives on in all who cherish the values of freedom and democracy.

I would like to extend my condolences to Senator Kennedy's family and to the American people, and to express my deepest sympathies, both personally and on behalf of the Argentine government, at this time of great loss.
