Former intern

I interned for two years for Sen. Kennedy when I was in college - 1996-1997 and 1998-1999, and have since attributed it to be one of the best and most rewarding experiences of my life. It was an honor and privilege to work for a public official who embodied the true meaning of public service, champion of causes, and fighting for the rights of others. It was truly inspirational, and instilled in me a spirit to give back to the community and others in meaningful ways.

Among my positive memories (besides the fact that he always enjoyed the same lunch from Boston Market) was his love and devotion to his family, his appreciation for all his staff, his commitment to his constituents, and dedication to his work. I had the pleasure to talk to him and Vicki on a few occasions, but I still remember the first meeting, when after introductions, the first words they said to me was "Thank you for all you do." I was taken aback because here I was an intern, and felt I should not be on the receiving end of gratitude. I communicated to them as I do now, "No, thank you for all you do."

I was saddened to learn of the news about Sen. Kennedy, and would like to extend my regards to his family. I will always treasure the memories at his office, but also in the laws he helped established to improve the quality of lives for all people. And most importantly, thank you again for all you do!
