TRIBUTES

I am a police officer in Peabody, Massachusetts currently serving as the Deputy Chief of Police. Some years back Senator Kennedy scheduled an unannounced visit to Peabody to attend the International Festival. I was assigned to meet the helicopter at the Northshore Mall and keep the area clear.
When the helicopter landed there were not a lot of people present and I was able to see craft land and Senator Kennedy come out. The Senator looked over in my direction, and despite being directed to an awaiting vehicle he started instead in my direction. I looked around to see what might have caught his attention and then it became obvious that it was in fact me he was seeking out. He walked right up to me, extended his hand and said, "Thank you for assisting me."
I was stunned that he would even have taken notice of me as he probably has seen a million police officers in his travels and to think that he would have went out of his way to say that was probably the most thoughful act that has ever been bestowed upon me in my career.
