TRIBUTES
Miles Zaremski
Due to my legal background, I was asked by the Senator and his office to represent him in a friend-of-the-court (amicus) brief before the United States Supreme Court in two cases, Aetna v. Davila, and Cigna v. Calad. These cases had to do with managed care companies interfering with the decision-making process between the doctor and his/her patient and not taking responsibility in a legal sense for any damages that may have been caused by such interference. It was a complete honor and joy to have represented his interests. What I learned from this experience was the "true grit" in his bones for those less fortunate and for those who had to battle corporate America to achieve a level playing field - in this instance, with health care.
But as we feel for you, his family, in this time of great personal loss, I think America was given a gift by his untimely passing. That gift is with will, guts, passion, and roll-up-your-sleeves hard work, anything is possible. His lifetime is our beacon to ensure that his most momentous cause among cause - true healthcare reform - occurs in 2009.
My best wishes to you all, and, to the Senator, may you rest well with your Maker.
