TRIBUTES
Steve Schwartz
For two days in 1986 I lobbied for the Equal Rights Amendment. Senator Kennedy was one of the politicians I spoke with, and he made a very positive impression on me, far beyond the fourteen other members I lobbied. I noticed that Ted Kennedy had full knowledge of all the issues and possible consequences, whereas the others were not personally knowledgeable about the specifics, nor even all the current bills. The other Senators and House Members would have their staff members read the legislation and relay the "most important" points, but Ted Kennedy actually read, comprehended, and was able to express every detail of every pending bill at the time. I was amazed at his consideration, his intellect, and his kindness to me - a long-haired, 33 year-old man from Florida. I have a deep respect for Ted Kennedy, in how he cared for people and how he executed his job. My sincere condolences to the Kennedy family.
