TRIBUTES
Taylor O'Hara
One of my favorite memories of Senator Kennedy was when he was in downtown Boston, during the Christmas holiday, ringing a bell, soliticing money for the Salvation Army. He was laughing and hugging people. People stood in line wanting to donate money and shake the Senator's hand. He was beaming, and I think he was, because so many people told him how he helped them with their problems - Social Security, Veterans Benefits, Medicare. There were so many testimonials from the 'average Joe' and I think Kennedy was beaming, not because he helped people, but because he enjoyed, truly enjoyed meeting people. He made some funny self-deprecating jokes about himself and the crowd loved him for it. Elderly women hugged and kissed him, men were patting him on the back. It was a grand sight.
It was cold that day, but no one seemed to mind the weather.
Teddy was there for them, as he was for so many years.
May you rest in peace, Good Senator.
We miss you.
